Hale Farm and Village is a living exhibit demonstrating farm life as it was when farmer Jonathan Hale resided here as early as 1810. Docents donning period attire will reveal the history of the Western Reserve. In addition to visiting gardens, homes and businesses that existed over 150 years ago, visitors can take part in educational, hands-on activities such as brick making. Live sheep, horses and mules also reside here, thus making this experience even more authentic.

HIGHLAND SQUARE. Contrary to popular belief, this impressive historic house museum did not get its name from a person or family. Stan Hywet (pronounced Hee-wit), means "Stone Quarry" in Olde English. At one time, this estate contained a sandstone quarry (which is now the site of the naturalistic lagoons). In 1912, F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and his family began construction of the Manor House, which hosted such guests as President Taft, Helen Keller and the Von Trapp family. Today the estate is comprised of 70 remaining acres of beautifully landscaped grounds that harmoniously combine structural design with natural surroundings. One of the ground's most popular attractions is the peaceful walled English Garden that was created by renowned landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman.

HIGHLAND SQUARE. Though it may not look like much from the outside, this structure has hosted events that contain a world of significance. In 1935, a man simply known as Dr. Bob had his last alcoholic drink, and he and his partner, Bill Wilson realized the addiction to alcohol can best be beaten with support from others who've been through it. So they began the lifesaving support group known as Alcoholics Anonymous in this house. Tours are available throughout the home. Visitors are also encouraged to watch the 25-minute video, "House of Miracles."

DOWNTOWN. This impressive estate dates back to 1837 when it was home to Colonel Simon Perkins, son of the founding father of Akron. The home remained in the Perkins family until 1945. The architecture is unmistakably Greek Revival, and the interior still contains authentic furnishings of the early nineteenth century.

QUAKER SQUARE. Found on Lock 15 in the Cascade Locks Park, the historical Mustill Store and house exemplify life as it was back in the 1850s. These buildings, once the center of activity among those who traveled along the canal, tell a tale of history. Not only does this Mustill Complex depict the days when Akron first began, but it also illustrates the rise and fall of the canal era. These canal buildings have been carefully restored to the way they would have originally looked during this period. The store is one of the very few remaining canal structures like it anywhere in the world.

QUAKER SQUARE. Constructed in the late 19th Century, the Hower House is a striking example of second empire Italianate architecture. Each of the 28 rooms inside displays furnishings and decor typical of the turn of the century when the Hower family was in residence. Some of the rooms are octagonal in shape, boasting parquet wood floors and authentic antique furnishings. Guests are invited to stop by and take a walk back in time during any of the home's open hours.
