In years past, this showcase of holiday spirit was concentrated along 2½ miles of Branson Hills Parkway, but it's now been broken up into clusters to spread the cheer around and to free up the thoroughfare. No matter where displays are located, folks marvel at the beauty and effort of the spectacle, which features millions of lights and a wealth of visual takes on the Christmas celebration, both sacred and secular. Many thousands of vehicles typically make the circuit during the two-month event.

This early December event showcases local faith and creativity as it seeks to combat the commercialization that often accompanies Christmas. Vibrant floats, devoid of advertisements, pay a festive tribute to the season, and marching bands add a joyful note to the proceedings. The downtown area is decked out in holiday splendor, as are many spectators. The concluding focus of the parade is the illumination of an enormous nativity scene atop Mount Branson, which has been a part of Christmas in the area since 1949.

Giving due reverence to our American heritage, this seven-week festival (three festivals, actually: a food festival, a cowboy festival, and an art festival) honors the country's venerable traditions. Cowboy/girl culture is given a strong promotion, as seen in rodeo events, Western art, and old-fashioned barn dances.
