    “The perfect hotel for us”

From check in to check out, the Radisson Ocean Pavillion was perfect! We were greeted with a smile at our taxi and met with smiles throughout our week there. To whomever suggested looking at the room before accepting it, thank you! We actually looked at 3 or 4 different rooms before setting on 913, a queen room with a balcony. We had beautiful views and plenty of space (though I wish the bathroom had been a tad bigger). My only complaint is the lack of comfortable seating on the balcony. There are 2 plastic chairs out there (not lounge chairs) without cushions so that you can't really sit out there comfortably for extended periods of time. The queen bed was fine - nothing special (especially since my husband and I are accustomed to our king-sized bed at home) - and the seating area in our room was a nice addition. The tv only had one English-language channel that we could find, so that was a bit of a bummer, but I wouldn't let that be a deterrent to future stays. Caution: don't leave any food or drink open in your room! There are these tiny ants that invade at the first sight of anything to eat, and they are a pain to get rid of! The pool areas were lovely, too, especially after we discovered the adults-only area on the 10th floor! The breakfast buffet was incredible - so many delicious options plus daily Green Juice to offset my food indulgences the rest of each day! The lunch and dinner buffets were fine though nothing all that special. Definitely introduce yourself to the concierge, Lorena, and take advantage of her recommendations for restaurants and activities - she was amazing! Also, if you don't speak Spanish well (we don't!), be prepared to spend some time explaining your wants/needs to the staff as very few of them (other than Lorena) speak enough English to communicate easily. That said, almost everyone on the staff was willing to take the time to help us with whatever we needed or wanted, so it really wasn't a problem at all. One other thing . . . if you are celebrating a special occasion during your stay, be sure to let Lorena know! My birthday was during our trip, and she had a beautiful dessert and vase of flowers sent to our room that day (and sent my husband an email to let him know it was there in case we were out and she needed to have it delivered later)! As to the location (La Boquilla), I definitely recommend this area of Cartagena if you are looking for a relaxing vacation. We took Ubers or taxis to other areas of the city to shop and sight-see. La Boquilla is the most tranquil of the places we went. The Old City is beautiful with some really nice hotels, but it is bustling and loud. Getsemani is also lovely but very busy as is Bocagrande. I'm glad we spent some time in those other areas, but it was so nice to return at the end of the night to our little quiet part of Cartagena.
