About Corning

Located in the southern part of New York's Finger Lakes region, Corning is surrounded by great natural beauty and provides terrific opportunity for outdoor activities. The tourist-friendly town also offers nearby attractions like superb wineries and, in Watkins Glen, a state park and well-known racetrack. Recognized as a world leader in glass-making - and dubbed "Crystal City" for its prominence - Corning boasts a heritage that dates to the 1860s. Plus, Corning Museum of Glass documents the history and science of glass-making and displays one of the world's most comprehensive collections of glass items. In addition, downtown's historic Market Street comes alive with glass studios, restaurants, art galleries, and other shopping opportunities. Fine arts also thrive, courtesy of several annual cultural events. In addition, thanks to the efforts of a local couple, Rockwell Museum and its renowned western and Native American art grace the town with an amazing selection of visual trophies.

Did you know?

Floods following 1972's Hurricane Agnes devastated the Corning area, leading to loss of life and extensive property damage. In the wake of such tragedy, a new spirit of unity arose, along with rebuilt homes and industries. A downtown renewal also took place, resulting in the charming ambience that exists today along Historic Market Street.
