STOCKYARDS. Housed in a renovated warehouse, this restaurant dedicates itself to bringing authentic Mexican cuisine to Fort Worth. Only the freshest meats and produce are used each day, and the kitchen's attention to detail shows in the carne asada (grilled tenderloin), fajitas, and steak ranchera. Other specialties include Mexican pepper steak, pescado vera cruz (grilled fish topped with cheese sauce), and Don Juan coco von (chicken in wine sauce). Combination dinners are also available, along with great tortilla soup, chalupas, and tamales. The restaurant's great outdoor garden is an ideal spot for private gatherings.

The majority of the menu consists of steaks -choose your cut from a refrigerated case and have the staff cook it to your specifications. If you're not the red meat type, look for chicken, shrimp, lobster, and mountain oysters (called "lamb fries" here). Dinners come with salad, potato, and rolls to make sure you eat like a real cowboy, and at lunch, sandwiches and smaller portions are available.

Dinner entrees are basically limited to enchiladas and fajitas, but they're done so well and come in such substantial portions that no one seems to mind. Guacamole, chips and salsa, and side dishes round out the offerings. Several bars take care of the margarita need, and expansive outdoor gardens and patios house thousands of patrons regularly. In fact, the enclosed greenspace, with its plants and fountains, attracts so many that lines often circle the restaurant.
