"We stayed here one night on our way to Orlando. Very easy to get to and lovely furnishings. The beds were comfortable and the refrigerator came in handy. I would stay at this location again. Nice to have the gas station right next to the parking area and we bought gas before heading down the highway."

About Gainesville

Seat of north central Florida's Alachua County, Gainesville is best known as home of the University of Florida. This well-regarded public school, lair of the Fighting Gators, not only imparts a youthful vigor to the city of approximately 115,000 but is also the county's largest employer. The town itself sits amid pine forests, wetlands and farms, all of which once fueled its main industries of agriculture and lumber. Although these still remain strong, Gainesville, in recent years, has added health care and high-tech research to the mix. Considered the commercial and cultural center of the region, the town boasts prestigious institutions like the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Hippodrome State Theatre. They provide an intriguing counterpoint to beautiful natural locales like Devil's Millhopper State Geological Site, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens and Paynes Prairie State Preserve. If shopping's on the agenda, expansive Butler Plaza promises practically anything you could need, and downtown Gainesville is rife with animated college bars and terrific restaurants to fit any budget. Should all of these provoke a craving for a Florida from past days, drive out to Cross Creek and visit Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Historic Site or dine on authentic Cracker fare at The Yearling Restaurant, which remembers and pays tribute to her moving, elegiac novel.

Did you know?

While many college bands dream of making it big, few break into the mainstream. Not so with Gainesville's Sister Hazel. Decidedly unassuming, the band, with its blend of folk, rock and pop influences, has a wide following thanks to hits like "All For You" and "Change Your Mind."
