About Salt Lake City

Founded by Mormon leader Brigham Young, the capital of Utah has taken strides to move beyond its conservative image. Salt Lake City has become a progressive economic center and vital tourist destination. It was also named site of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Despite its ever-increasing population (800,000+), Salt Lake City remains easygoing and surprisingly intimate. The lake for which it's named is the second-largest salt-water lake in the world. And with the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains looming in the backdrop, outdoor recreation is abundant year-round. Alta and Snowbird have great skiing, and Wasatch State Park offers golf, hiking, and Nordic sports. In town, visitors can take in a Jazz game at the Delta Center or catch the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. In the evening, head down to the Red Rock Brewing Company for a hearty ale.

Did you know?

In recent years, Salt Lake City has altered its liquor laws, allowing businesses more options with the beverages they sell. Licensed restaurants and private clubs can now offer bottled, draft, and canned beer; wine by the bottle and glass; and liquor by the drink but patrons must be dining to be served alcohol. Typically, in licensed restaurants, beer (up to 3.2% alcohol) is served from 10am till 1am, and stronger beverages (including beer over 3.2%) are offered from noon to midnight. Private clubs which do make temporary memberships available to out-of-towners can sell everything from 10am till 1am. In addition, state liquor stores and package agencies sell beer, wine, and liquor "to-go."
