About Norfolk

Fortified strategically at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, Norfolk is often referred to as "The Navy Capital." Close proximity to the world's largest natural harbor Hampton Roads has ensured Norfolk's place in maritime history. Today, it's still one of the largest naval bases in the world. Though not known as a tourist destination, Norfolk has its share of interesting sites. The most popular attraction is Nauticus, The National Maritime Center, which is located downtown on the waterfront and features a number of oceanography exhibits. History buffs can take in the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and the Douglas MacArthur Memorial. Another worthwhile stop is the Chrysler Museum, which showcases the varied collection of Walter Chrysler, Jr. For shopping and dining, the Colley Avenue area is your best bet.
