NORTHWEST COAST. Aqua Grill is a contemporary restaurant with an open kitchen and the island's largest raw bar. Start with oysters or clams on the half shell, seared tuna sashimi or ceviche. Seafood is the name of the game here, and you can choose virtually any preparation: fried, grilled over a wood fire, broiled, poached, stuffed and baked...the list goes on. The cioppino is particularly tasty, but if you're not a seafood eater, there are also a handful of other choices (steak and pasta, mostly). There's an array of specialty coffee drinks which will make a nice, light ending to your meal, but the delectable desserts are all made in-house.

The fried Brie with mango chutney is highly recommended, as are the fried shrimp and tapenade. Of course, if you're craving a burger or a steak, you can get that, too. As an added perk, if you bring in a set of S & P shakers that the restaurant doesn't already have (and that you didn't pick up at one of the local hotels), they'll give you a free glass of wine. For breakfast, S & P offers excellent savory sandwiches and egg dishes, along with sweeter choices like pancakes and a variety of cold cereals.

GREATER ORANJESTAD. Casual and friendly, the Turtle's Nest is owned by the same folks who brought us the Waterfront Crabhouse. It's quite popular with families because of the super kids menu. The regular (adult!) menu is consistent and good, offering affordable standbys such as shrimp cocktail, grilled steaks and burgers, and a handful of tasty salads and sandwiches. The house specialty, Seafood Linguini Fra Diavola, is quite good, but the daily fresh seafood specials tend to be exemplary, even inspired on occasion. The Turtle's Nest is also an especially solid choice for the budget conscious.

Broiled Caribbean lobster is always a solid choice, but the fresh catch of the day, prepared to your liking, is really the standout. Whether you opt for Aruban style (pan-fried with a Creole sauce), a la Meuniere (dipped in egg batter and sauteed with white wine and lemon), or deep-fried, your selection will arrive with sides of rice or potato, fresh steamed veggies and pan bati, the local cornbread.
