OLD TOWN. Ecuador's tallest church is visible from many vantages in Quito since it sits perched on top of a hill, about eight blocks from Plaza de la Independencia. Despite being of neo-gothic construction complete with flying buttresses, arches and spires the church is a relatively new one. The building was begun in 1892 and is still uncompleted. The exterior is made of concrete, which is lit up by colored lights in the evening. Inside there are beautiful stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Bible. Be sure to brave the climb into the towers because the view is breathtaking.
