One of the city's oldest and longest-running festivals, Seafair began in 1950 as a tribute to Seattle's 100th anniversary. The schedule includes festivals and events throughout the Puget Sound area, over the course of about five weeks. Favorites include the Milk Carton Derby (a boat race with vessels crafted from milk cartons), an air show featuring the US Navy's Blue Angels, a parade, bike race, triathlon and hydroplane races. In addition, you can see the festival's signature clowns, catch the crowning of Miss Seafair, and watch or take part in a host of other events too numerous to mention.

Celebrity chefs make mouthwatering selections, and there's plenty of pizza, pasta, prosciutto, salumi, focaccia, gelato, and espresso. Throughout the month there are various events: the Festa Italiana Mass, the Festa Downtown Luncheon, and the Festa \\\"Taste of Italy\\\" and the annual Italian Festival at the Seattle Center. You'll also find art, craft, dance, opera, grape stomping, and bocce tournaments. Salute!

Dozens of bands, food courts, beer gardens, and children's activities line the streets, and retailers highlight their best wares. Boat lovers, take notice. The west coast's largest boat show takes place in Seattle. This show has it all: over 1000 boats (some for display, some for sale), about 200 seminars (free with admission), and a wide variety of vendors offering all manner of boating accessories, including the most technologically advanced gadgets you'll find anywhere. The show actually has two locations: Qwest Field and an on-water site at South Lake Union. A shuttle runs between the two -- all day, every day. Qwest Field: Mon-Fri Noon-9pm, Sat 10am-9pm, Sun 10am-6pm; South Lake Union: Mon-Fri 11am-5pm, Sat-Sun 10am-5pm.

Each night, a nautical parade visits different communities along the Puget Sound, from Tacoma to Kirkland. You can watch with hundreds of other happy revelers from strategic bonfire-warmed spots along the beach. Or you can ride in the parade. Select from a number of cruise options (ride the Christmas Ship itself with or without dinner and music, or follow along in one of dozens of additional brightly decorated boats). A portion of the proceeds benefits The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy.

The Seattle Pride Parade is the city's second largest with attendance surpassing 200,000. The parade begins at the corner of Union Street and 4th Avenue, and proceeds down 4th Avenue to Denny Way. About 150 groups participate, with prizes for the best float. A highlight of the weekend's PrideFest, which takes place at the Seattle Center.

Cheese, glorious cheese! Offering creamy to crumbly, sharp to nutty, and everything in-between, this festival rolls out wheel after wheel of more than 200 local and international artisanal varieties to sample and purchase. It's not all about eating though. There's also a competition between local restaurant owners and the Granite City Curlers to see who can roll those wheels across the cobblestones of Pike Place Market the fastest. Say what you will, but definitely say CHEESE!
