Tips for Travellers

  • When planning business travel seek advice from whoever manages travel risk within your company
  • As a leisure traveller contact your destination hotel and seek advice on local crime or personal safety issues if they exist
  • When using public transport always have your luggage in sight.
  • Ensure valuables such as wallets, purses, phones etc are safe in zipped pockets particularly when amongst congested streets and tube journeys
  • When not using your mobile phone keep it out of sight in your zipped or closed pocket – Do not leave on table tops in coffee shops / restaurants or lobbies.
  • Never keep all your travel documents, identity documents, money, credit cards etc in one place. Keep them in at least two places to ensure you are not totally stranded following a theft.

Whilst at your hotel

  • Keep a close eye on your luggage at all times during check in. If you are unable to do this ensure it his handed directly to a luggage porter and a luggage receipt taken
  • Remember to retrieve your credit card before leaving the reception desk once checked in.
  • If your room key along with key wallet is lost ensure you report this to the hotel Reception staff immediately – do not wait until you return t the hotel.
  • Always use your room safe for travel documents, large sums of money, jewellery, important documents etc.
  • Make sure that you lock your room safe after use – physically pull the safe door.
  • When leaving your room check and ensure that the door has closed and locked correctly.
  • Never disclose your room number aloud in public areas of the hotel.
  • If you are suspicious of the behaviour of any person whilst at the hotel please report this to a member of staff.
  • Always use your spy glass viewer in your door to verify identity of unexpected visitors or knocks at the door. If you have any suspicions do not open the door but call reception and report the visit.
  • If you decide to open your door for unannounced visitors use your secondary lock or ‘keychain’ to restrict initial opening of the door.
  • Whilst in bars and restaurants keep your personal belongings in sight at all times.
  • Bags left beside chairs and coats on the backs of chairs are primary targets for thieves in any major city.

Employment Scam

A number of unsolicited fraudulent emails have circulated purporting to offer employment at one of our hotels.  These emails target job-seekers who have posted their biographical information on internet websites and often contain misspelled words and unusual return addresses.

The emails include official-looking documents as attachments and purport to offer employment without the need for in-depth interviews.  The perpetrators then request sensitive personal information (passport numbers, social security numbers or other personal data) and/or the payment of fees to third parties, allegedly for work permits or visas.

These are not genuine offers from our organization.  Please do not provide sensitive personal information or submit payment to third parties in response to such offers.
